Tomsk is one of the oldest cities of Siberia founded in 1604 as a Russian fortress in the Tom River basin. In the 17th century it had its initial significance as a military outpost against steppe nomads. The stamp shows the City Government building, the Church of the Resurrection, the Tomsk State University and an ancient wooden building.
