Dzhemaldin Khamurzayevich Yandiyev was a People’s Poet of the Chechen-Ingush ASSR, a member of the Union of Writers of the USSR.
He was born in the village of Balta, Prigorodnoye District, the Chechen-Ingush ASSR. In 1929, he enrolled into a preparatory group of the Vladikavkaz Industrial Polytechnic School, and received a degree of a heating engineer in 1936. The same year, he started working forLeninskiy Put’ (“The Lenin’s Way”) newspaper. He was the Chairman of the Union of the Soviet Writers of the Chechen-Ingush ASSR from 1938 till 1944. On 23 February 1944, he was deported to Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan together with his fellow Ingush and Chechen.
He was the author of such collections of prose and verse about modernity as The Mirror of Time (1941), My Home Mountains (1959), Thoughts (1966), Selection (1976), etc. He translated works of Alexander Pushkin, Mikhail Lermontov and Alexander Blok into the Ingush language.
Currently, the poet’s works enjoys wide popularity in Russia and around the whole world. His verses are translated into Russian, Georgian, Polish, Kazakh and other languages. Dzhemaldin Yandiyev was awarded the Badge of Honor order for merits in developing Soviet literature.
