№ 1690-1692. World cultural heritage of Russia. «Historical centre of Saint Petersburg

Saint Petersburg is among the most beautiful and undamaged cities of the world from an artistic point of view.  The Northern capital differs with its logic nature of the space composition, including severe straight streets, spacious squares as well as numerous channels, bridges, embankments, gardens and parks.

The Admiralty is the first building on the left bank of the Neva River in Saint Petersburg, which has been conceived by Peter I only like a shipyard. The place wasn’t chosen by chance: the Neva River is wide enough to launch ships from stocks. From the 1740s the construction of grandiose, festive buildings in appearance in baroque style has begun. The most influential representative of this direction V.V. Rastrelli has created one of the most outstanding monuments of the Saint Petersburg’s baroque – the Winter Palace that has been served the main residence of the Russian tsars for many years. At the beginning of the XIX century the city was decorated with the Spit of Vasilyevsky Island with the Stock Exchange building and the Rostral Columns as well as the St. Isaac Cathedral that had been built for 40 years.
