A joint issue of postage stamps is the simultaneous issue of postal authorities in two or more countries of postage stamps and other philatelic products on the same theme. Often the pictures on the stamps of different countries are identical. In recent years, this tradition has gained widespread occurrence. Such issues serve to strengthen the interstate relations, as well as increase interest in the native stamps. In 2010, the joint issue between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Serbia is dedicated to the art of icon painting.
Stamps depict the famous icons of both countries: "Archangel Michael" which belongs to the brush of Andrei Rublev from the collection of the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow and "Mother of God Odigitrija" from the collection of the National Museum in Belgrade.
