After the seizure of Kazan by John the terrible, the Bashkir tribes, which were under the rule of Kazan khanate, accepted Russian citizenship automatically. The tsar deeds guaranteed the preserving of rights for patrimonial estates for Bashkir lands to their owners. Bashkirs guarded the eastern borders of Russia from the Kaspian Sea to Omsk city up to the middle of the 60th years of the 19th century, i.e. up to the conquest of the Central Asia. They served in army, supplied Russia with furs and with honey and in response the Government of John the Terrible guaranteed them the right for ownership of their patrimonial estates. The deliberate choice , which made the officials of Bashkir people in the 50th of the 16th century was that very turning point, which changed the course of history and it was the powerful spur to economic and cultural development of the region. The main bas-relief of the monument of Friendship, installed on the shore of Adigel river at the entrance to Ufa is depicted on the stamp. The authors of the monument are sculptors M.F.Baburin, G.P.Levitskaya, architects E.I.Kutyrev and G.I.Gavrilov. The bas-relief illustrates the scene of taking the Russian citizenship by Bashkir delegation.
