St.Sophia Cathedral (above right), the first stone church in Vologda built on order of Ivan the Terrible in 1568-1570. The cathedral houses precious frescos by D.G.Plekhanov (1686-1688). The octagonal bell-tower of the Cathedral (1654-1659, rebuilt in the 19th century). In the upper left corner there is a picture of St. John Zlatoust Church (17c). In the foreground there is the house which belonged to I.Y.Barch, an admiral (1728-1806). The centre of the stamp features the coat of arms of Vologda and the jubilee date "850".
