Davis Cup is one of the oldest and the most prestigious tennis tournaments in the world. The winner is given a marvellous silver cup - Davis Cup trophy, which was contributed to the organizers of the first match in 1900 by one of its participants, a Harvard student Dwight Davis.

About 150 national teams take part in Davis Cup nowadays. Only 16 teams of the so-called World league compete for the Cup. It is interesting that up to the 1980's the participants did not get any prizes. The prize fund was created only in 1981.

On Dec 1 2002 at the crucial meeting with the French national team Russian netmen won by three goals to two and got the Davis which is featured on the stamp. The margins of the sheet feature the tennis-court of the Bersy hall in Paris.
