Ih 1492-93 Christopher Columbus led a Spanish expedition looking for the shortest sea way to India. His three carvels crossed the Atlantic and reached the Sargasso cape. On Oct 12 1492 he reache the island Samana. This is the official Discovery Day. Later Christopher Columbus reached other Bahamas, Cuba and Haiti. In 1493-1504 he reached the Big Antilles, some of the Small Antilles, coasts of South and Central America and the Caribbean Sea.
