Wood-grouse hunting. Wood-grouses start leking when the snow begins to melt and finish when the first leaves appear. The birds come to lek in the evening and sit on the trees, mainly on pines. Wood-grouses start singing before dawn. Their songs can be heard in 200-300m. While singing the cock loses his sense of hearing for some seconds and lets the hunter get closer.

Duck hunting. The traditional hunting with a false duck is held in spring, when ducks come from the South during the spate. The period of hunting coincides with the beginning of birds' marital dances. Hunters build special shelters on the river banks. Early in the morning they let a special duck, unafraid of bangs, swim in the lake or river and trap the drakes.

Falconry. This kind of hunting is one of the most ancient ones in Russia. In the 10th - 13th cc Russian princes loved falconry (the bird flies from the hunter's hand and catches the prey in the air). Falcons are uncommon birds nowadays, that is why sparrow-hawks are used instead. Unlike falcons catching birds only in the air, hawks cathes the prey both in the air and on the ground. One can hunt with a sparrow-hawk for ducks, black cocks, partridges, woodcocks and rabbits.

Wolf hunting with flags. This kind of hunting is based on the strong wolf instinct of avoiding unfamilliar things. The hunter's main task is to find a place where a pack of wolves lies. Then this territory is fenced with flags on a string. Wolves are afraid to come to the string. The hunters should not be in the leeward. They look for shelters and are dressed in special camouflage clothing. It is enough to have 6-8km of flags for wolf hunting.

Bear-baiting. The lairs where brown bears sleep in winter are situated under fallen trees, wrested roots and in brushwood. The hunters take their places around the lair and the beaters are behind the lair. Dogs find the bear and sometimes stop him.
