The stamp features the portrait of Ekaterina R. Dashkova (1744-1810) made after an engraving dd. 1700s. Ekaterina Dashkova was Director of St.Petersburg Academy of Science and President of the Russian Academy of Science (1783-1796). She facilitated publishing of scientific works and founded scientific periodicals. She initiated production of the explanatory dictionary of the Russian Language by the Russian Academy, and recommenced public readings on exact sciences. E.Dashkova wrote "Memoires" which present an interesting view of her era. The stamp shows her dates of life and the word "Europe".

The stamp features the portrait of Sofia V. Kovalevskaya, made after a photo dd. 1885. Sofia Kovalevskaya was a distinguished mathematician, the first woman to become a Corresponding Member of the Academy of Science (1889). For her research works she was awarded the Paris Academy of Science Prize (1888) and the Swedish Academy of Science Prize (1889). Sofia Kovalevskaya wrote a series of short stories and "Childhood Memoires", a family chronicle. The stamp shows her dates of life and the word "Europe".
