A.A.Gorsky (1871-1924) was a ballet dancer, a choreographer, a teacher. In 1902 A.A.Gorsky became the leader of the Moscow ballet company and started to reform ballet. He took into consideration experience of the legitimate drama. A.A.Gorsky tried to bear down various conventions of the academic ballet of the 19th century. He started from the renovation of an old ballet "Don Quixote" (L.F.Minkus, 1900). Then he worked with many other ballets of the classical heritage, including "Giselle" (A.Adan, 1907) and "La Bayadere" (L.F.Minkus, 1917). But A.A.Gorsky"s own creative ambitions were to stage his own ballets, such as "The Daughter of Gudula" (A.Yu.Simon, 1902) and "Salambo" (A.F.Arends, 1910). Fragments of these ballets are featured on the stamps.
