№ 2007. Russian Nuclear Industry

 

Pursuant to the Decree No 9887ss dated 20 August 1945 issued by the State Defense Committee (SDC), the SDC USSR Special Committee, a special administration managing works with uranium, was created. It consisted of high-ranking government officials and physical scientsits.

Russian nuclear industry is one of the leading in the world in terms of scientific and technological inventions in the field of reactor development, nuclear fuel, atomic power plant operation and personnel qualification. The enterprises of the industry have gained enormous experience in achieving ambitious goals such as creation of the world’s first nuclear power plant (1954) and developing of fuel for it.

Nowadays, the nuclear industry of Russia is a large complex of uniting more than 250 companies and organizations, which have a staff of more than 190,000 people. The industry comprises four large research and manufacturing complexes: enterprises of nuclear fuel cycle, atomic power generation, nuclear weapons complex and research facilities.

The stamp depicts Rosatom, a systemically important company against the background of industrial objects silhouettes: an icebreaker, nuclear power plant and a tomographic scanner.
