A two stamps joint issue between Russia and Belgium is dedicated to carillon - a musical instrument consisting of bells and a keying assembly. "Raspberry Toll" of the first carillon, which was ordered by Peter the Great and brought from Holland, rang as far back as the 18th century. It was Io Khazen, Director of the Royal carillon School in Mechlin (Belgium), who was responsible for the creation of the new carillon for St.Petersburg. The new carillon was inaugurated in St.Petersburg in September 2001. The stamps feature the St.Paul's Cathedral in St. Petersburg, the St.Rombout's Cathedral in Mechlin (Belgium) and the belfry carillon of the St.Paul's Cathedral.
