The existing complex includes the Preobrazhenskaya church (1714), the Pokrovskaya church (1764) and a tabernacular bell-tower (1874). In 1960 Kizhi was turned into the museum of the National wooden architecture and ethnography of Karelia.

The Statue was inaugurated in 1782 by E.Falcone, M.Kollo and F.Gordeev. The pedestal of the Statue is a gigantic granite stone ("thunder-stone") which was found in 1768 on the seaside of the Finnish bay, not far from the village Konnaya Lakhta. The stone weighs about 1,600 tons.
