Two-head eagle became the state symbol of Russia under Ivan III when this Byzantine emblem united with the Moscow emblem – a horseman, trampling a dragon. Later on every ruler made some alterations into the emblem. After the Soviet emblem abolishing by the edict of President B.N.Yeltsin in 1993 a new emblem of the Russian Federation was approved. It is “a golden two-head eagle on the red heraldic shield; three historical crowns of Peter the Great (two small ones over the heads and one big crown over them) are above the eagle); a scepter and an orb are in the eagle’s clutches; a horseman trampling a dragon with his spear is depicted on a red shield on the eagle’s chest. The President of the Russian Federation V.V.Putin signed a Federal Constitutional law “On the State emblem of the Russian Federation”
