Varvarka is one of the three main streets of Kitai-Gorod. At first it made a start from Spasskiye gate of the Kremlin and lay along the crest of the hill above the Moskva-river. Since the middle of the 16th century the street has been actively built up. Stone churches, monastery farmyards, English and Merchant yards appeared. After the fire of 1812 most of the houses and shops in the street were rebuit in stone.

Petrovsky park was created in Moscow in 1827 at the Petrovskiy Palace. It was planned by A.A.Menelas. A big summer theatre, a wooden building for concerts and balls, a swing and garden-houses were situated in the park. Since the 1830s the park has become the place for promenade. In the beginning of the 20th century fashionable Moscow restaurants were situated there. In 1985-1986 the park was reconstructed. Today it is the piece of landscape-gardening art of the 19th century.
